What Every Manager Should Know About How to Look Beyond His Attitude
Once we understand the difference our attitude makes in our lives, we can appreciate the fact that it helps us to make our lives so much more enjoyable and successful. The reason our attitude makes so much difference is that it seems to control nearly everything else about us. It helps us get better grades in school, become more generous and courteous to others, and enjoy better health. People with a positive attitude enjoy life to the fullest. They tend to work better and get along better with others than do their peers who lack such attitudes. They seem to expect good things to happen to them and usually they get what they expect because they become the kind of people who earn their good fortune. The right sort of attitude seems to give us a unique control over our future. It helps us take a casual, more easygoing, calm, more serene attitude toward things and situations that put others in a nervous sweat. We can concentrate completely and take our work seriously and do it surprisingly well without, at the same time, becoming a fanatic about it. A person with a bleak, failure-oriented attitude cannot change it to a winning attitude in a single day. But with conscious practice, it is astonishing how every aspect of our lives can be changed for the better. Controlling our attitude is the first step in maximizing our potential. It was always a treat, as all we had was a small, kiddie pool and sprinkler at home. One summer, we even got to spend a whole week at my aunt's, and we got as red as lobsters, as we were in the water every available minute. If we were to become even nicer, and even more spiritually aware they would still reject us so it is a pointless battle trying to win over everyone. Have a Present Moment! It was the 10th day of rain, and I walked into the pool locker room feeling a little soggy around the edges. Accepting Change Well I've finally done it...I turned my heat on. After shouting at the kids that it's not cold and making them dress like they are outside, I turned on the heat in the house. I finally gave in when I couldn't feel my fingers anymore while typing and the cat, Bogey, was sitting next to the desk sneezing continuously. I started thinking, hmmm he has fur and he's cold. Maybe it is cold. (One of those duh moments) I then looked at the temperature on my computer and saw it was 43 degrees. Well I guess it is time. You may be Shocked to Hear This What I mean of course is, to appreciate life through the eyes of a child. Remember your unbounding joy when you received your first tricycle or bike with training wheels or visited Disneyland for the first time. The awe you felt was partly because of your innocence. You saw only the good in those times and you felt an unconditional love coming from those who gave you the gift or took you to visit Mickey and Minnie.I'll bet you didn't even notice the other park visitors. If you did you were unaware or unconcerned with the color of their skin, race, size, language,clothes, hair etc. The feeling of unconditional love and the innocence we all experienced in our youth are the antidote to many of society's ills-prejudice, hatred and selfishness,consumerism etc. Watch Your Mouth Ever had one of those mothers, or grandmothers, who would often say, "Be careful what you ask for?"
